Make your career objective happen.

Make your career objective happen.

You are the only person who has the vision to “see” your career objective: only you know what it is in detail: to everyone else it is totally invisible.

This assumes that you have actually thought about and defined your career objective: if you haven’t, then beware lest others, such as line managers and employers define it for you.

But just defining it doesn’t make it happen! To make it happen you need to use the “top down approach”.

1 Write out your career objective in detail.
2 Add specifics such as job titles and salary targets against a timeline.
3 Put in some serious planning, particularly in terms of how you intend to achieve each step.
4 Now take action and commit to doing something each day, no matter how small, towards the achievement of the objective.
5 Finally, don’t let the work involved take your focus away from the objective: stay focused and don’t let the work you do for your job get in the way of your career.
