8 ways to curb your tendency to procrastinate.

8 ways to curb your tendency to procrastinate.

1 Stop saying, “I’ll just ... and then I’ll ...”. It usually means, I’ll have my reward and then I’ll get on with the task.

2 Remember what my Great Uncle Ernest used to say, “Procrastination is the thief of time!”

3 Eliminate distractions of any description - in particular stop diving in and out of social media, especially Facebook!

4 Make a list of actions with deadlines for completion. However, don’t make list making into yet another distraction. Enjoy instead the satisfaction of putting a tick next to completed actions.

5 Hold yourself accountable to your mentor or partner, a colleague or friend, by telling them of your intentions to complete specific tasks by specific times.

6 Break down large tasks into manageable chunks. These are much easier to start and feel far less daunting.

7 Don’t leave the difficult tasks or the ones you’re not so keen on to the end - do them first and enjoy the rest of your day on the easier stuff.

8 Stop coming up with reasons why now is not a good time to do xyz and realise that it’s probably not a reason at all but simply an excuse.

By the way, please stop asking me how I know all this stuff!
